ABSTRACT

Tiv youths of today have discarded and abandoned Tiv values. The way members of the society relate and interact with one another today is different from what used to be the norm. In the past, relationship among members of the society was based on the values of honesty, sanctity of life and dignity of the human person, and respect for elders. The Tiv society of the past valued, just reward for labour, hard work and dignity of labour. These values have given way to corruption, aggressiveness, killing, armed robbery, kidnapping, banditry, impatience, greed and the desire to get rich quick, through foul means. This paper posits that this value degeneration is as a result of imbibing western education, without character and value training. The effect of this is the complete erosion of the Tiv value system, leading the society to the brink of collapse.
